You don’t want to incur the wrath of the Shaq Diesel, baby. Because he’ll call you out on his next crappy rap number:

On You Not The Fightin’ Type, O’Neal sets out to even scores with several people: [Kobe] Bryant, who he believes got him traded from the Los Angeles Lakers; [Ben] Wallace, whose Pistons defeated the Lakers for this year’s NBA championship; and Skillz, whose rap The Champs is Here celebrated the Detroit victory.

“I heard your little interview and what Ben Wallace said. I ain’t got no response for spider-web head,” O’Neal raps.

“Even with wings you never as fly as me,” he continues. “You remind me of Kobe Bryant trying to be as high as me… but you can’t… even if you get me traded… wherever I’m at, I’m Puffy; you Mase and you’re still hated.”

Fightin’ words. We’ll see if he can back it up on the court versus Bryant and Wallace; as for Skillz, I don’t think he needs to lose any sleep.

Actually, I liked Shaquille’s earlier rap efforts, especially What’s Up, Doc? with Fu-Schnickens, about ten years ago.

Call me mean-spirited, but I’m glad Mel Gibson’s latest production effort, Paparazzi, was a relative flop with $7.8 million in its opening.

I’d like to think that audiences just knew a stinker when they saw one. More likely, the average schlub probably just couldn’t figure out what the word “paparazzi” meant, and so was scared off.

This isn’t any backlash over The Passion of the Christ, which I considered to be a gutsy bet for Gibson (and an ultimately winning one, both critically and financially — nice when that happens). But Paparazzi is such an obvious celebrity wet dream brought to life, it’s embarassing to see it on film.

Related to this: I think it’s safe to officially declare the once-promising Robin Tunney to be box-office poison. Her string of flops and obscurities since her modest success in 1996’s The Craft speaks for itself.

A cute picture of a cute girl wearing a cute shirt. Do I really need any more reason?

Incidentally, Ms. Hathaway is getting ready to shed her princess pedigree in her upcoming two films. “Shed” being the operative word: She mentioned a nude scene in Havoc when she was on “The Graham Norton Effect”.

Yes, sir.

not a tumor
Just before going to bed last night, I flipped through the channels and landed on VH1. “Popumentary: Arnold Schwarzenegger” was on.

I watched only three minutes of it. It was enough to let me know that it was the God-awfulest crap ever made. Ever.

What I saw:

Arnold (played by a guy who barely resembles the real deal, although he does sound a lot like him) arriving in America, circa 1968. He’s training in a gym, getting cussed out by his trainer. He poses in front of a mirror, when his trainer brings in some guy to meet him. Arnold offers his hand in greeting, it’s refused. Arnold says, “Too bad, you just passed up a chance to shake hands with the next Mr. Universe.” The guy says, “Mr. Universe, huh? Well, you look like a fat piece of crap to me.”

Just then, the picture freeze-frames, and VH1 throws up a “Pop-Up Video”-style graphic that says the following: “Actual quote was, ‘piece of @#$%!’, but because we’re VH1, we can’t allow that.”

With that, I turned the TV off and hit the sheets.

spell my name
Britney and her fandom are a match made in heaven. Judging from a sample Google log of the various misspellings of “Britney Spears” entered every day, they appear to be at least as stupid as she is.

I mean, if you love her so damned much, don’t you think you should learn to avoid typing out “brotney spears”?

(Thanks to Tian for the pic)

I feel cheated. When I served as a juror on a murder trial last month, there was no celebrity serving with me, no media circus, no invitation to be on TV afterward, and no chef-prepared lunch.

But that’s because Oprah Winfrey got called for jury duty in Illinois, not Florida. So I’m sure it wasn’t personal.

‘’I didn’t feel like, ‘Oh, gee, I put somebody away,’ ” said Winfrey, who invited her fellow former jurors to stay after the show for a lunch prepared by her personal chef. “In the end, it just felt sad.”

Funny, that’s much the way I felt. I didn’t regret my participation at all, but immediately afterward, I definitely felt more drained than I did satisfied.

I’m not comparing myself to Oprah — I’m a couple billion dollars short — but it occurs to me that we made similar use of our murder-trial experience. I used it for blog fodder, and got some pretty good content from it. Oprah used it on her show, and got a good change-of-pace segment out of it. Each of us used our medium to look back and to find closure. And get a little more exposure, naturally.

Of course, after that our paths diverged, ever-so-slightly: Oprah went on to interview Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law. I went on to drain my car battery (again).

1. Denial: I cannot believe Elisabeth Kubler-Ross is dead.

2. Anger: Her signature book, “On Death and Dying”, costs 16 bucks on Amazon??

3. Bargaining: I guess I could get it cheaper in paperback.

4. Depression: Thinking about death really bums me out.

5. Acceptance: Well, we’ve all gotta go sometime.
