A hint of when the personal and the professional intersect just a little too closely, in terms of personal mindshare:

A colleague of mine, who’s scrambling to secure financing for his nascent company (and for whom I’m providing some pro-bono consultative services) while counting down the days until his firstborn’s imminent birth, refers to both situations as “startups”.

Thinking in terms of a startup mentality when having a child is certainly novel. It all begins with a lot of sweat equity at conception :) , then involves major amounts of continual financial and resource-heavy investment. I guess the exit strategy kicks in somewhere between the 18th and 22nd year? Although you retain stock options (of the emotional type) for decades thereafter.
