Merriam-Webster is doing its annual roll-out of newly-added words to the English dictionary.

I feel that these two potential entries are overdue for inclusion:

-zilla (suffix): Word appendage signifying an extreme degree, especially in size or temperament. Think the television show “Bridezillas”. Derived from Godzilla, especially the potent z-l audiological combination.

Captain (always capitalized): Pejorative title bestowed to emphasize some trait or behavior. Calling a balding man in the throes of denial “Captain Comb-over” exemplifies this usage. Derived from the common naming convention of superhero characters, notably Captain America and Captain Marvel.

Neither of these are new, so I can’t believe they’re not already in the lexicon. Can’t believe we’d have to wait another 30 years for “zilla” to be officially sanctioned.

A while back, I was duly disturbed by news that Bloods routinely “baptized” their infant offspring into gang life, teaching the young ‘uns gang signs and nicknaming them “drops” (as in “blood drops”).

With that dynamic in place, I shouldn’t be surprised by the appearance of Gangsta Babies:

With blinged-out pacifiers and names like “Pookie: The Green-Eyed Baller,” Gangsta Babies combine Bratz with Cabbage Patch Kids and then go one step further. You have to be intrigued by a product with the tagline “Comin’ straight outta crib-town!” $112 gets you a set of four, including Pookie and his homies Benjino, Rey Rey and Deuce.

Thug life in plush-doll form. Bling-bling, goo-goo.
