It’s a month late, but it’s finally here: Columbus 72, the Upper West Side’s only dance club, is having its grand opening party this Saturday!

It looks like you can snag an invite via the club’s website. If not, I’ve been extended an invitation, and the ability to forward it on. So if anyone in town needs a way to get in — if that’s going to be a challenge — then comment or email me.

I wouldn’t make such a big deal out of just another club opening, but this is in a neighborhood that I’ve grown to like. And frankly, I’m already tired of the bar/lounge scene. I like dance clubs, and if this one shows any promise, I’m going to make it a frequent stop on my nightlife merry-go-round.

Besides, any joint that’s got Crazy Eddie spinning tunes from the DJ booth is worth checking out.

How nippy was it outdoors in Manhattan today? Enough so that I spotted some old guy walking along 57th Street, bundled up in — of all things — a black XFL jacket.

The jacket looked like it was in good shape, too. It was a half-flax, half-leather number, with a fair-sized vintage black-red-white XFL logo on the left breast. It took me all the way back to 2001, I tell ya…

What are the odds of coming across the merchandising detritus of a defunct gimmick league? Five years after the fact, I’m thinking this is probably the last time I’ll catch visible evidence of Vince McMahon’s foray into real sports.
