Population Statistic: Read. React. Repeat.

As if the memories conjured up by Wednesday’s Cory Lidle plane crash on the Upper East Side weren’t enough, here’s a little exercise to reinforce the link with the past:

1. Get a pen and piece of paper.

2. Write down the date of this week’s aviation accident, in number format: 10/11/06.

3. Now, turn that piece of paper upside down.

4. Read what is now says: 90/11/01.

5. Disregard that first zero, and you have: 9/11/01.

A little bit of a reach, but not much. It’s as creepy and conspiratorial as you want it to be.

The woman who showed me this little tricky bit picked it up last night, while having a few drinks at that oh-so-trendy Tenjune. I noted to her that barroom banter was just about the perfect setting for sharing something like this; and so, I thanked her for enlightening me.

At The Art of Shaving, you can get all manner of shaving kits. And at select retail locations, you can even get barber spa services, for a reasonable price.

But no butter shave? How could they have missed that whisker-taming technique?
