Population Statistic: Read. React. Repeat.

For the past couple of days, I’ve noticed that my wallet been feeling a lot looser in my back pocket. Instead of having that snug feeling against my buttock, I’ve got a piece of cow leather sliding around in my pants.

Two possibilities come to mind:

1. I’ve got less money on me.

2. My ass is less fat.

The answer: A little from Column A, a little from Column B.

Fact is, I recently cleaned out my wallet of a bunch of old receipts, cards and other filler. Amazing how much that sort of stuff bulks up your billfold. And, as is my wont, I tend not to carry much cash around, relying upon plastic instead (although I’ve found that city living pretty much demands cash on hand for countless little things). As a result, there’s less action going on in the bi-fold.

As for my posterior, I guess all the walking demanded of New York City daily life is to blame. I haven’t got buns of steel going, but I certainly feel a bit more toned.

Generally, you rarely want to mess with the dynamics back there. But sometimes, it just can’t be helped.

***UPDATE, 5/4/2006: Round Two and Beyond Schedule***

Time to lace them up! It’s NHL playoff time, and at least one person is excited.

And so am I. I haven’t reflected it here much lately, but I’ve been enjoying the season’s home stretch. Final seedings in both conferences weren’t determined until near or at the very end of the season, with big question marks over whether or not last season’s Stanley Cup champs would even make the postseason (they did, barely) and if the Rangers would hang onto the Atlantic Division lead (they didn’t). Hopefully, the juice will last well into the Stanley Cup tourney (which potentially can last until June 19th).

As I resolved, I’m taking the opportunity to list the series-by-series schedule for these NHL playoffs. However, because of the seeding method used in hockey’s postseason, there’s little point in trying to map out beyond the first round at this stage. Therefore, this dead-simple playoff glance is going to be restricted to the first round. I’ll supplement it later, as matchups for the later rounds are determined.
