Population Statistic: Read. React. Repeat.

A couple of “bridges to nowhere” and a never-ending bid to plunder the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge — not to mention the Permanent Fund Dividend — lately have conspired to give Alaska something of a black eye, PR-wise.

So Governor Frank Murkowski is hiring Allyn & Co. to rehabilitate the 49th State’s image (and by the way, persuade public opinion that’s it’s okay to start drilling in the ANWR).

Instead of having Allyn devise a propaganda campaign, the Guv should just take a big chunk of that oil money and start up a television production company. Audiences are currently in love with cop shows, and “Hawaii Five-O” did wonders for Alaska’s sister state. Maybe “CSI: Anchorage”!

Or stick with a retro “four-nine” idea. If it has a cool theme song, I might just use it as my ringtone.
