In a further move to include more robust features, Blogger (owned by Google, in case you don’t know) recently rolled out captcha verfication for preventing comment spam.

In typical play-it-safe fashion, Blogger is avoiding the term “captcha” in favor of “word verification”. Which is fine. What’s less discernable is why they didn’t make it a default option.

Then again, I haven’t been aware of Blogger/BlogSpot blogs being bombed by spambots, so maybe this is a wholly preventative measure. No doubt, it’s more managable on a mainstream level than using blacklists and other options.

Unfortunately for Blogger, the captcha method may already be on its way to obsolescence.
