With the caveat that I’m no fan, I find the growing mainstream adoption and monetization of podcasting to be a mildly interesting development.

At root, I have to agree with this assessment:

“The explosion for podcasting hasn’t happened yet,” said [Los Angeles radio station KCRW general manager Ruth] Seymour. “It takes off the second that someone gets the music rights.”

Which is the only context where podcasting makes sense, really. Even if music is somehow made a seamless addition, I still see the whole thing being nothing but a gee-whiz fad that will run its course after a year or so. As will its mutant twin, video blogging (or vlogging).

live and in person
I got an early Christmas present today, in the form of tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld’s standup performance at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in December. My friend Kirby hooked it up; he got them from his friend and former co-worker, Kathy.

Something to look forward to! I hope Seinfeld come in packing new material, though. I’ve heard most of his classic spiel countless times by now, between concert performances and, of course, the show.

I’ve confirmed today that the aforementioned (and anticipated, at least by me) St. Pete Times blog directory is, indeed, soon to be published. It’ll probably be in this coming Monday’s off- and online editions.

I won’t say how I know. It has nothing to do with the fact that the paper’s Web Publishing department is right down the hall from my office. I came across the information quite by accident, in fact. I figured as long as I had the info, I’d try to start some preemptive buzz.

I’m looking forward to seeing how much traffic the coverage brings this way. I’m sure there’ll be some spike; I’m just wondering how much.

I’ve listened to Paul Oakenfold’s “Starry Eyed Surprised” about ten times today.

I could listen to it another ten times. In fact, I’m listening to it right now.

And yes, I do have “Rollergirl”, that Diet Coke commercial, to thank for exposing me to it.
