hell with the lid off
Blondelibrarian is a Coke fiend, and she’s okay with that.

I currently drink more soda (not pop) than I should — an average of two cans a day, usually Coke. It’s far less than I used to drink, especially while growing up; I clearly recall downing something like a six-pack per day while in high school (back when my skinny-boy metabolism could still process that amount of crap). It’s the same old excuse: It just seems to be the easiest option, especially during a working lunch and such. Combine that with the overdose of caffeine from all the tea I drink on weekdays, and it’s a questionable liquid diet.

I used to jam out to Snap’s “The Power”, back in the day. No classic, but you could definitely dance to it.

Of late, the song has been converted to a commercial jingle. I had seen it used in an ad for Hotels.com, and I just now saw it in a commercial for — no kidding — Pampers.

I’m deleting the song off my iPod. Today.

Artwork from the fabled Salvador Dali-Walt Disney animated film project has been donated to a travelling exhibition of Dali’s works, on the centenial of the surrealist’s birth.

Here’s hoping that art eventually makes it’s way to Tampa Bay and the Salvador Dali Museum. The Disney-Florida connection is a natural. An even better fit would be to display the works as part of the upcoming “Dali & Mass Culture” exhibition.

I’ve added a few more blogs, stage left. Check them out!

Updating the blogroll is something I put off, because it involves updating this blog’s template, which is currently a pain. The WordPress interface for doing so doesn’t work (probably through my error), so I have to FTP the file back and forth. Not a huge deal, but enough of a chore to keep me from doing it very often.

Correspondingly, there are probably a few more blogs that I still need to add, but haven’t. If you have any candidates, comment away; can’t hurt.

WordPress does have a links management utility built into it that’s supposed to make such housekeeping easier. Unfortunately, like most things about it, WP’s documentation on how to actually implement the links manager is pretty much non-existent. So I’m not prepared to mess with it at this time. If anyone else is up-to-speed with their WP-powered site and would like to cough up the right “get_” PHP code for outputting that link data, feel free to contact me.

slipping under
Alt-rock veteran Scott Weiland admits to Britney Spears’ “Toxic” as one of his guilty pleasures.

What’s not revealed in this online version of the article that appeared in the June/July 2004 issue of Sync is why Weiland likes the song so much. To him, the lyrics sound like a paean to cocaine. His exact quote, from the print edition:

“I was listening to the new Britney Spears single and I swear it had to be about cocaine. So I listened closer. And, yeah, it’s about cocaine.”

Considering this Stoned Temple Pilot’s documented experiences with coke, I’m prepared to accept his expert analysis. Or maybe he just thinks everything relates at some point to cocaine, and needs to spend more time in detox.

As much as I like Britney’s song, there’s no way it holds a candle to Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines” (which I understand is featured prominently in the cult classic du jour Shaun of the Dead). The more I see, the more I do.
