No, it didn’t take long after getting my iPhone 3GS for me to file an iPod Random Tracks post. Battery-drain be damned, I’ve gotta keep the music flowing during the daily commutes!
So this is the first edition of this little shuffled-up tunestream report to come out of my telephonic device. I’ve still got my iTouch, and it’s still going strong; but I don’t see listening to music on it as much anymore. The iPhone will be my personal jambox going forward (and no need to change the name of this Category, since the media-playing functionality is called “iPod” in the iPhone’s OS).
And with that, let’s get onto the list: The last five randomized tracks to pour through the earbuds, with accompanying lyrical snippet from each.
1. “Mathematics”, Little Boots - Don’t know my Fibonacci or Pythagoras.
2. “Great DJ”, The Ting Tings - Don’t you feel you’re growing up undone?
3. “Fancy Footwork (Death To The Throne remix)”, Chromeo - And maybe do the twerk.
4. “Ice Cream (Van She Remix)”, New Young Pony Club - Treat that treats you so mean.
5. “Hot Hot Hot!!! (Extended mix)”, The Cure - But I like it when that lightning comes.

The trend has definitely set in: This is the fourth time in a row that the iPod Random 5 updates during holiday time. My iTouch must have a thing for commemorative events.
As luck would have it though, none of the songs that spewed from my music player jibe in any particular way with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. But I liked the sequence, regardless. So here’s the random shuffle-generated list, with the customary lyrical tease from each:
1. “No Time (Sh*t Robot Remix)”, The Juan MacLean - Saw you dancing with the human.
2. “My Love Is For Real”, Paula Abdul - Gave you excuses with each storyline.
3. “Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer) [Club Mix]“, Freemasons - Long as I’m moving it feels true.
4. “Play With Fire”, The Rolling Stones - Not in Knightsbridge anymore.
5. “Casey Jones”, Grateful Dead - Trouble ahead, trouble behind.

Once again, this latest posting of my latest iTouch shuffled-up output occurs on a monthly schedule. And once again, it comes just ahead of a holiday.
None of which is particularly germane to the particular songs that make up this Random Tracks lineup. But in lieu of a unifying theme amongst the following tracks, the backstory will have to do. Besides, the pre-Yuletide timing is rich enough context.
And with that, the most recent music to hit my earbuds, with accompanying lyrical snippets:
1. “Ghosts (Toxic Avenger mix)”, Ladytron - Doesn’t mean I’m sorry.
2. “My Love Sees You”, Beni - Sees you.
3. “Prophets Of Rage”, Public Enemy - But I’m past the days of yes-y’allin’.
4. “Paris Four Hundred (Etienne De Crécy Remix)”, Mylo - [instrumental]
5. “She Wolf (David Zafra Dance Mix)”, Shakira - This is lycanthropy.

Along with a nearly-monthly frequency, this iPod Random Tracks category seems to be morphing into a holiday-time content well. Just as last month’s contribution came around Halloween time, today’s falls on Thanksgiving, oddly enough.
The songs that most recently came forth from my iTouch have nothing to do with Turkey Day. But that’s neither here nor there. The point of this exercise is to recount the randomized tracklist that the Shuffle setting yielded, along with a catchy lyric sample for flavoring. Hey, there’s a Thanksgiving angle!
And with that:
1. “Hot N Cold (Yelle remix)”, Katy Perry - Surprends moi, ou va t’en.
2. “My Back Pages”, The Byrds - I’m younger than that now.
3. “Music Has No Meaning”, Consolidated - But all we get is empty distraction.
4. “Money Ain’t A Thang (Bonus Track)”, Jay-Z & JD - I been spendin’ hundreds since they had small faces.
5. “The Have Nots”, X - This is the game that moves as you play.

At this point, this whole randomly-generated playlisting off my iTouch is becoming a monthly feature around here. Once every 30-ish days might not sound like a regular schedule to you, but to me, it reeks of an unwanted consistency.
And with that… The last five shuffled-up songs that emitted out of my earbuds. With brief lyrical sample, naturally:
1. “The Simple Life”, The Juan MacLean - I lost you to oblivion.
2. “Mama Said Knock You Out”, LL Cool J - Don’t call it a comeback.
3. “Metropolis (The Twelves Remix)”, Cicada - I would.
4. “Enter the Newground”, DJ Kentaro - Continue.
5. “The MC”, KRS-One - I black out and wake up to catastrophe.

It’s time: Another blog-chronicling of the last five tracks that randomly shuffled forth from my iTouch, including a lyrical sample from each song. Not so long after last month’s entry, either.
In fact, that little music-player was on such an uninterrupted hot streak today — precluding my usual fast-forwarding when an unfavorable song ticks up — that I’ve decided to extend the list. So instead of the usual five, I give you six musical samplings from my digital collection. Behold!
1. “Me Against The Music – Chix Mix (Bloodshy & Avant, No Madonna)”, Britney Spears - If you really wanna battle, saddle up and get your rhythm.
2. “Get The Fuck Outta Dodge”, Public Enemy - You’re straight from Babylon.
3. “Hit The Decks”, Cirrus - Oh my god.
4. “Funplex (CSS Extended Remix)”, The B-52’s - Chandalabra’s in a wonder bra.
5. “Anyway You Choose to Give It (Extended Mix)”, The Black Ghosts - But don’t think you can imitate the accent of fate.
6. “Look On the Floor (Angel City Extended Remix)”, Bananarama - Devil’s in your eyes and he’s looking at me.

What’s this, another listing of shuffled-up tracks off my iTouch? Barely a month after my last post on the subject? What gives?
Aside from my fondness for this randomized mix, I’m having a hard time waking up on this Saturday morning. Three cups of extra-strong tea haven’t done it, nor have various chores. So I’ll try a bit of blog-writing (those lyrical snippets accompanying each song title don’t count, of course), and see if it doesn’t clear the mental (and, following that, the physical) cobwebs.
And with that, let’s roll:
1. “Circus (Junior Vasquez Electric Circus)”, Britney Spears - Hope that you feel the same.
2. “20th Century Boy”, Placebo - Everybody says it’s just like Robin Hood.
3. “Pon De Replay”, Rihanna - Shake it ’til the moon becomes the sun.
4. “Personality Crisis”, New York Dolls - You got it while it was hot.
5. “Don’t Stop The Rock”, Chemical Brothers - Get up on it like this.

It’s been a while since the last shuffle-generated listing of my iTouch’s song output. Today, this curious sequence came out:
Two Britney Spears remixed tracks to start, followed by a couple of Michael Jackson classics (one remixed and one from the Jackson 5 era). It’s almost like the two pop superstars decided to go to war, right on my music player! And in the midst of that high-voltage pop playback, one-hit wonder Noel somehow snuck into the mix.
And with that, let’s roll the last five songs to randomly tick up in my earbuds, along with a semi-cryptic lyric snippet from each:
1. “Circus (A Crowd Electric Remix)”, Britney Spears - I’m running this.
2. “Womanizer (Mr. Vega Combined Power Rework)”, Britney Spears - Baby you got all the puppets with their strings up.
3. “Thriller (Villains Thrilla Remix)”, Michael Jackson - Tonight.
4. “Silent Morning”, Noel - I’m on fire.
5. “I Want You Back”, Jackson 5 - Every street you walk on, I leave tear stains on the ground.

No particular theme behind this latest presentation of my iTouch’s latest shuffle-generated playback. It simply came out, and I simply captured it below. So there.
The number 8 coming from 8trk. Any day now.
1. “Hit the Decks”, Cirrus - Oh my god.
2. “White Trash Wedding”, Dixie Chicks - It took a nip of gin but you finally took my hand.
3. “Break the Ice (Kaskade Remix)”, Britney Spears - I know it’s been awhile.
4. “Move (Cut Copy Remix)”, CSS - So please hold me tight tonight.
5. “Express Yourself”, N.W.A. - They’d rather exaggerate a little fiction.
6. “Austin’s Theme Song”, Austin Powers Soundtrack - [instrumental, no lyrics - yeah, baby!]
7. “Xanadu (I Live In Newtown John Mix)”, The Olivia Project - The echoes of long ago.
8. “Gittin’ Funky”, Kid ‘N Play - So hyper, you’re gonna need a sedative.

Back to the bad-weather incidence of shuffled-up track lists off my iTouch, as today’s cloud-covered sky somehow influenced a noteworthy stream of music through my earbuds.
Thank 8trk for the enumeration of eight, as usual.
1. “Circus (Junior Vasquez Electric Circus)”, Britney Spears - Let me see what you can do.
2. “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt”, Yellowman - A’searching if you have any ratchet.
3. “Ce jeu (The Twelves Remix),” Yelle - Que je n’trouve plus de sens.
4. “Not In My Name (16volt Check Yourself Mix)”, KMFDM - Add a cause to a bomb then set it off.

8. “Rock the Bells”, LL Cool J - You’re totally engulfed by the structure and the format.

There’s actually nothing particularly Presidential about today’s shuffled-up tracklist, fresh off my iTouch. But it happened to come together on today’s holiday, and so for lack of a better unifying theme, there it is.
As always, the number eight brought to you by 8trk, which is previewing itself toward debut.
1. “Sandcastle Disco (Lost Daze Club Mix)”, Solange - Don’t blow me away.
2. “Go”, DJ Scratch vs. Baby Anne - Halt!
3. “Freedom”, George Michael - Take back your picture in a frame.
4. “Angelic Particals”, Hallucinogen - [instrumental, no lyrics]
5. “A Horse With No Name”, America - ‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain.
6. “ATHF Theme (Remix)”, Schoolly D - Ice on my fingers and my toes and I’m a Taurus.
7. “Soul Man”, Blues Brothers - Got what I got the hard way.
8. “24 Hour Party People”, Happy Mondays - Press the ‘pause’ on the self-destruct.

Reviving a trend that manifested last summer, this latest listing of the last eight shuffled-up songs off my iTouch is borne out of harsh weather. This time, it’s a skin-chilling cold blast that’s got New York temperatures well below freezing. Why my iPod Touch picks such inclement conditions to spew out a decent string of uninterrupted tracks is beyond me.
As usual, the number 8 brought to you by 8trk. The blog of which is now back in business.
1. “Circus (BitchSLAPhappy 3-Ring Circus remix)”, Britney Spears - All eyes on me.
2. “Natural’s Not In It”, Gang of Four - Fornication makes you happy.
3. “Friday I’m in Love”, The Cure - Monday, you can fall apart.
4. “Passage”, DJ Krush - [instrumental, no lyrics]
5. “Russians”, Sting - There is no monopoly of common sense.
6. “So What’cha Want”, Beastie Boys - I’m the illest motherfucker from here to Gardenia.
7. “Crazeee Skyhopper (Rmx Version)”, capsule - Let me take you on a trip.
8. “Sense of Purpose”, Third World - You hanging out with bad company.

Happy Thanksgiving! What better day to roll out a fresh list of the last eight shuffled-up songs to play from my iTouch?
Well, actually, these songs have practically nothing to do with turkey, pilgrims, the Mayflower, or any of the holiday’s themes. Really, the day just came, and this random grouping came with it (early, yet).
But I will say that it’s one of the odder consecutive sequence of songs to flow out of my iPod, simply because it’s notably light on the pop-music vibe. In fact, with the lyrical snippets, there’s something of a somber tone at work — at least until Marky Mark crashes the party.
So anyway, here we go:
1. “Private Conversation”, Lyle Lovett - And she watched the shade go down.
2. “Come On Get Happy”, The Partridge Family - A whole lotta lovin’ is what we’ll be bringin’.
3. “Always On My Mind”, Pet Shop Boys - I just never took the time.
4. “Chance (Atmosphere) (Piccadilly Radio Session)”, Joy Division - Always danger.
5. “Sometime To Return”, Soul Asylum - The hourglass is draining fast.
6. “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”, Hank Williams Sr. - The moon just went behind the clouds.
7. “Spirits In The Material World”, The Police - But it’s the rhetoric of failure.
8. “Good Vibration”, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch - Made me want to know who done this.

In honor of tomorrow’s Halloween merriment, I decided to cobble together a playlist of the spookiest songs I could find on my iTouch. Some might seem like a stretch — and they are — but rather than edit this down or overthink it, I’ve decided to post as is. Enjoy. Or not.
(No, strictly this doesn’t belong under the iPod Random Tracks category, since the list wasn’t Shuffled into existence. But I’m not starting a new category just for ghosts-and-ghouls season, so this’ll have to do…)
1. “And This Is What The Devil Does”, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult. Techno dance beat with gothic undertones, and interspersed with cheesy horror movie screams and soundclips. Solid.
2. “Ghosts (Toxic Avenger mix)”, Ladytron. Probably the least-spooky remix of this track. Still, the amped-up synth in this one lends a punch in the head to the haunting vocals from the original version.
3. “Black Cat”, Ladytron. Not particularly scary, but the title provides all the Halloweeniness necessary.
4. “Sympathy For The Devil (Who Killed The Kennedys Mix)”, Laibach. Spirited techno cover of the Rolling Stones standard. Actually some of the other Laibach remixes of this one would do better, because they feature growling demonic vocals; but this Kennedys mix has always been my favorite because of the disconcerting effect that a female lead vocalist brings.
5. “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”, Tom Petty. Seasonally mournful in tone and narrative.
6. “Rain on the Scarecrow”, John Cougar Mellencamp. Probably too serious in subject matter for Halloween hijinks, but the scarecrow image is just too perfect to not include.
7. “Peace Frog”, The Doors. With those trademark eerie keyboard sections, there are plenty of Doors standards you could conjure up for Halloween. But this one, with the persistent use of blood imagery, fits my bill.
8. “Where Did You Sleep Last Night? (MTV Unplugged session)”, Nirvana. Cobain’s cracking voice near the end puts a cherry on top of this musical horror sundae. Or something like that.
9. “Don’t Fear The Reaper”, Blue Oyster Cult. Come on baby.
10. “Torture”, KMFDM. The deep-throated vocals paired with the manic electro-chop instrumentals send a shiver down the spine.
11. “The Creeps (Fedde Le Grand Remix)”, Camille Jones. Whisper-staccato lyrics override the spritely beat.
12. “Armagideon Time”, The Clash. A lotta people running and a’hiding tonight.
13. “Run Through The Jungle”, Creedence Clearwater Revival. A gritty, creepy tone throughout, in vocals and instrumentals.
14. “Holiday in Cambodia”, Dead Kennedys. Despair set to California surf rock.
15. “All Along The Watchtower”, Jimi Hendrix. Baleful guitar licks match too perfectly with foreboding lyrics.
16. “I’m Your Boogie Man”, KC & The Sunshine Band. I realize the Rob Zombie cover remake is more scare-riffic, but I defer to disco. Besides, this one has a subtle creepiness to it.
17. “Turkish Song of the Damned”, The Pogues. Nothing like a scary sea chanty.
18. “Zero”, Smashing Pumpkins. Gloom and doom, and the band’s named after the Halloween gourd. Mark it.
19. “Psycho Killer”, Talking Heads. “Burning Down the House” might do too. In any case, can’t have a mix-list without my favorite band on it.
20. “All Tomorrow’s Parties”, Velvet Underground. This beats out “Herion” by a hair as the Velvets representation to this party, mainly thanks to Nico’s haunting vocals.

As I teased yesterday, here’s a fresh list of the last 8 randomly-played songs off my iTouch. Eclectic as heck, as tends to be the case when the shuffle setting is in effect.
The number eight, as always, brought to you by the still-germinating 8trk. Which makes this post timely, as I’m scheduled to meet with that company’s head honcho later today; so Bryson, consider this dedicated to you (only tangentially, but still).
It has been a good while since the last listing. And it’ll probably be a good while before the next one, too.
1. “Hello! Let’s Go to a Disco (Moston & Malente Remix)”, Ursula 1000 - Let’s get it on.
2. “Automatic (Funky Junction & NK)”, Ultra Naté - I go from sadness to exhilaration.
3. “Roast Fish and Cornbread”, Lee “Scratch” Perry - Fine, fine, fine, fine.
4. “Mer du Japon (Remix by The Teenagers)”, AIR - J’en perds la raison (I lost my mind).
5. “More Than This”, Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music - Who can say where they’re blowing.
6. “Scream (DJ Bruno Remix)”, Starkillers - Would your girlfriend call me “whore”?
7. “Killer”, Queen & George Michael - Tainted hearts heal with time.
8. “I Really Wanted You”, Pansy Division - But don’t deny that there were other possibilities.

The last time I posted an iPod Random 8 list, I thought I’d picked up a correlation between rainy days and this exercise.
But maybe it’s broader than that: Any crappy weather will do. Such is the case today, sorta, as New York is sweltering through the first heatwave of the year. Normally I eat up the heat, but even I’m suffering; must be the abrupt shift from semi-cool one day to blazing hot this weekend (or else I’ve finally acclimated away from my former Floridian climate-control).
Whatever the cause, my most recent shuffling of iTouch sounds produced the following.
Side note: I’ve gone ahead and finally created an iPod category, with iPod Random Tracks subcategory, and placed all past posts on this subject in there. Makes it a lot easier to hunt through the past editions of this mess. Plus, it occurs to me that this subgroup would be ideal for trying out WordPress’ new tagging capabilities, although I’ll have to think about that more.
1. “Break The Ice (Soul Seekerz Dirty Club)”, Britney Spears - You’ve got my heart beating like an 808.
2. “The Race Is On”, George Jones - True love’s scratched for another’s sake.
3. “Freedom! ‘90″, George Michael - But today the way I play the game is not the same.
4. “Cherry Blossom Girl (Simian Mobile Disco mix)”, AIR - Tell me why can’t it be true?
5. “Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex”, CSS - Music is my favorite mistress.
6. “14th St. Break”, Beastie Boys - [instrumental, no lyrics]
7. “Roam”, The B-52’s - Shootin’ through every degree.
8. “The Girl You Lost to Cocaine (Stonebridge Vocal)”, Sia - I’ll never get laid while I’m running your life.

Funny thing. It was a miserably rainy day the last time I was inspired to post an iPod Random 8 list, and so it is again today. Must be a trend.
Anyway, here’s the latest shuffle-determined string of output from my iPod Touch (or “iTouch”, if you prefer). Length of said string synced to 8trk, which I’m told is progressing nicely.
1. “Let Me Think About It (club mix)”, Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand - That I am the true way towards ecstasy.
2. “F-cking Boyfriend (Peaches Remix)”, The Bird And The Bee - When you lay down with me, you never slept that night.
3. “Mysterious Ways”, Angelique Kidjo - She sees the man inside the child.
4. “Mer du Japon (Remix by Kris Menace)”, AIR - J’en perds la raison (I lost my mind).
5. “Relaxation Spa Treatment”, Dan the Automator - [instrumental, no lyrics]
6. “Good Love”, Isaac Hayes (as Chef from “South Park”) - You’ll recommend me to your mother, your sisters, your aunts and your nieces.
7. “Let’s Stay Together”, Al Green - Loving you whether, whether.
8. “Colours”, Donovan - Freedom is a word I rarely use.

Time for a new spew of shuffled-up tracks out of my iPod Touch. It’s a rainy April Fool’s Day here in New York, and that has nothing to do with this little exercise, but what the heck.
My last listing was back in January, indicating that this musical roundup has taken on a quarterly schedule. It’s anything but intentional, believe me.
As always, the Number Eight is brought to you by 8trk. Coming any day now, I hear.
1. “Starlett Johansson (Narctrax remix)”, The Teenagers - You don’t believe in monogamy.
2. “The Race Is On”, George Jones - Heartaches are going to the inside.
3. “We Are Your Friends (Lee Cabrera’s ‘Lower East Side’ Remix)”, Justice vs. Simian - You’ll never be alone again.
4. “Welcome To The Terrordome”, Public Enemy - Crucifixion ain’t no fiction.
5. “Fat Albert (TV show theme)”, Bill Cosby - And Bill’s gonna show you a thing or two.
6. “The One I Love”, R.E.M. - A simple prop, to occupy my time.
7. “Ch-Check It Out”, Beastie Boys - Sport that fresh attire.
8. “Sympathy For The Devil (Soul To Waste remix)”, Laibach - [instrumental, no lyrics]

Let’s get this out of the way: My first 2008 listing of the last 8 random tracks to spew out of my trusty iPod Touch. And only one month since the last go-round.
As always, the choice of 8 tracks instead of some rounder number is in support of 8trk, which we should be seeing more fully-formed in ‘08 (appropriately enough, in meta-marketing terms). And with that:
1. “Let My Love Open The Door”, Sondre Lerche (Dan in Real Life soundtrack) - Release yourself from misery.
2. “What A Life”, Juliana Hatfield - You wear it like propriety.
3. “You’ve Got the Best of My Love”, Emotions - Love has kissed me in a beautiful way.
4. “Torture”, KMFDM - Scenes, once negated, ushered in.
5. “Bad Girl”, Madonna - I’m not happy when I act this way.
6. “Tainted Love”, Soft Cell - I don’t pray that way.
7. “Beautiful”, Goldfrapp - Turn me onto your star.
8. “Rock the Bells”, LL Cool J - And the best thing you wrote was a bunch of bullshit.

Not since this past summer have I posted a shuffle-generated list of tracks (with lyrical snippets) resulting from my iPod.
The reason? In that time, I’ve since upgraded to a latest-and-greatest iPod Touch. So mostly, I’ve been too preoccupied just noodling with the iTouch and all its neat features. The music’s still pumping out of it on an almost-daily basis, but I haven’t focused enough to make note of the sequence.
Until now. So here, in the nick of time 2007-wise, is the list of random 8 — 8 in keeping the sync with 8trk (where I’ll be cross-posting this):
1. “I Wanna Be Sedated”, The Ramones - Just put me in a wheelchair, get me to the show.
2. “Head Like A Hole”, Nine Inch Nails - Let’s go dancing on the backs of the bruised.
3. “Rapper’s Delight”, Sugar Hill Gang - Now what you hear is not a test.
4. “Super Disco Breakin’”, Beastie Boys - Nothing sounds quite like an eight-oh-eight.
5. “You’re No Rock ‘N Roll Fun”, Sleater-Kinney - Fill our Christmas socks with whiskey drinks and chocolate bars.
6. “Mer Du Japon (Remix By The Teenagers)”, AIR - J’en perds la raison (I lost my mind).
7. “My Fair Lady”, David Byrne - Calls to me a strange attraction.
8. “Heart of Hearts (Radio Edit)”, !!! - Talking ’bout real love baby.

It’s been a long time coming, so here’s the next installment of the latest random output to come out of my perpetually shuffling-repeating iPod.
Instead of the usual five tracks, I’ve expanded out to eight, to match up with 8trk’s Favorite 8, like I said I would. Gotta keep up with the Joneses!
So here we go:
1. “Torture”, KMFDM - Maybe in a day or so I’ll stumble on that grassy knoll.
2. “Waiting For Tonight”, Jennifer Lopez - Found a sacred place, lost in your embrace.
3. “Party For Your Right to Fight”, Public Enemy - It takes a nation of millions to hold us back.
4. “Hello, I Love You”, The Doors - Do you hope to pluck this dusky jewel?
5. “Stand (The Scrumfrog Extended Re-Hash)”, Jewel - It’s not all dirty, but it’s not all clean.
6. “Pusherman”, Curtis Mayfield - Your main boy, thick and thin.
7. “Weapons of Mass Distortion”, The Crystal Method - [instrumental, no lyrics]
8. “Get Down Tonight”, KC & The Sunshine Band - Same place, same time.
