For as many years as I’ve worked and played in sports media, you’d think I would have come across the tennis pun “feat of clay” before now.

But I hadn’t. It’s a clever play on the “feet of clay” expression, the more so because it’s a complete 180-degree turn from the original meaning: From describing a weakness to extolling a triumph. All from the substitution of one little letter.

Impressive. So long as we’re playing on clay courts, of course. On grass, the ball-and-raquet achievements rely on more mundane declaratives.
