Here’s the caption that accompanies the photo on the New York Times analysis of Sarah Palin’s weekend appearance on late-night television (italicized emphasis mine):

Gov. Sarah Palin, far right, taking her turn on “Weekend Update” on “Saturday Night Live,” with Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler.

Yes, “far right” or “far left” is the proper designation to give when describing a group of subjects in a picture, and indeed, Palin was positioned at the end of this three-person row. Still, since we are talking about the ultra-conservative half of the 2008 Presidential GOP ticket, I consider it a case of opportune wording. Probably unintentional, I’m sure.
