After foul-tipping on their first attempt, the St. Pete Times finally got it right: This week’s issue of tbt* features a cover story on the Tampa Bay area’s prominent bloggers.
But… where am I? (Aside from a “hot spot” link on the accompanying sidebar.)
Disclosure time: Shortly after the Times unveiled their online local blog directory, tbt* writer Steve Spears got in touch with me about doing an interview for the forthcoming editorial piece. I told him I’d be happy to participate, but pointed out a fly in the ointment: I work for Florida Trend magazine, and thus, for the same corporate parent as Spears. So I questioned the potential conflict of interest, and told him the ball was in the court of tbt*’s braintrust. As I expected, the safer course was chosen.
Which is fine. I’d have been surprised if it wasn’t so. I will say it would have been the easiest trackdown interview Spears would have had to do, since my office is footsteps down the hall from tbt*’s; even the photo shoot would have taken mere minutes.
But I had no doubt that there were plenty of interview candidates to go to, including the cover girl (who is, incidentally, the second tbt* cover girl I’ve known). I’ll have to track down a better image of today’s cover than what I’ve had to resort to tonight. (no luck on this; the tiny cover image remains) The rest of the roll call:
- St. Petersblog (which actually wasn’t highlighted in print, but is online)
Hopefully, this little exposure will bring these folks plenty of new fans.

I was specifically told that the safe route was taken in regards to the PopStat/spt connection. IMHO, you deserve to be on the list.

Hey, for the right price I think you could have at least (ethically) gotten yourself a little ink. You should have slipped one of your fellow bloggers a twenty and I’m sure they would have cited you as one of their “favorite blogs”.

Rachel was also in the Weekly PLanet this week. Her forehead won the Best of Bay award for “Best IMAX Theater”

Wow, is that the Bubbles? I’m glad you stayed strong and didn’t take the stand against Michael.

Yeah, I’m banned from the ranch and Rachel’s blog. THought I’d post here. [EDITED BY CT]

Well, you’re about to get banned from here, unless you keep it on topic and refrain from the gradeschool-level messageboard crap. I can ban you a lot easier than Rachel* can, and it’s not going to be up for debate.
If you have so much time to hunt down Rachel*-related posts, start your own blog and let it all spew there.

Well that explains it then…I was stunned to not see you included on the list. I’ve spent the last few weeks guessing who else would be on the list and figured you would be for sure. It makes sense, but still sucks.

Clearly this was a fake mustache moment.
You blew it man. When in doubt, ALWAYS use a fake mustache.

But my moustache is real, along with the rest of my whiskers… Maybe a fake French accent next time.
I appreciate everyone’s accolades! But let me emphasize: I’m not feeling snubbed. I’d have done the same thing if the roles were reversed, because it’s the right thing to do.

Hey gang. Glad most of you liked the cover story. I was bummed about not including Costa’s blog, because it’s certainly one of the best blogs out there, but we really do have a strict policy here about sticking to sources outside the corporation. But I have featured PopStat as the spotlight blog on the blogs directory this week, so hopefully that eases the pain somewhat. (It’s true we’re on the same floor here together, but have never met. What are the odds of that?)

I’ll take the consolation prize, gladly.
Odds of not actually meeting, despite proximity, are very good, actually. When I was in Times’ Sports, I never met anyone on the other desks (of course, Sports is tucked away in the corner, and I was there mostly at night, but still).
I’m sure each others’ faces are familiar. We’ll probably end up saying, “Oh, so that’s who you are!”

SPOTLIT
I didn’t get into the big tbt* blog cover story, so as consolation, I get to be in the Times’ Blog Spotlight this week.
Score! Check it out yourself. (I wish there was a direct, archived permalink for that Spotlight spot.)
I guess now I…
