So overwhelmed by household junk that you need professional help? Michelle Passoff Kupfermunz certainly hopes so, because she makes a living from helping people clear the clutter from their lives.

If there’s a stupider way to waste your money than to hire someone to throw away your old utility bills, I can’t think of it.

According to the writeup, Kupfermunz just relocated her consultancy from Manhattan to Tampa. Meaning she couldn’t make a go of it in Manhattan — where something as nichely ludicrous as dogwalking services limited to the East side can thrive. I can’t see how Tampa offers greener pastures for something like this.

I’ve got as much of a clutter problem as anyone else; having a packrat mentality certainly doesn’t help. But bringing in outside help, while motivational, strikes me as a declaration of a serious problem, which most people would be loathe to admit.

  1. No room to keep anything here in Manhattan, you have to throw it away :)
